NASA JPL field trip

On May 1st the 8th grade students visited the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. The tour started with a multimedia presentation on JPL entitled "Journey to the Planets and Beyond," which provided an overview of the Laboratory's activities and accomplishments. We toured the facility that created the Mars Science Laboratory mission. We got to see the test copy of Curiosity, the most technologically advanced rover ever built. Curiosity is on its way to Mars to determine whether the planet ever was, or is, habitable to microbial life. The rover, which is about the size of a MINI Cooper, is scheduled to land in August 2012. We also visited the von Karman Visitor Center, and the Space Flight Operations Facility.
